Used to be all you have to do is turn on the TV or read a paper (do people even still read papers or is it all online now) to find out things were steadily getting worse. Nowadays you only speak to family, friends or neighbors. No need to go any further. The economy has taken its toll on so many good people. I saw a news clip the other morning that spoke about a local theme park that was hiring minimum wage positions and how many thousands showed up for the jobs. They interviewed one of the lucky few that got hired. It was a woman in her 40s that was making over $70,000 annually just a few months before. She appeared grateful that she even got the job!! I have a Dr. friend of ours that has a practice in California that serves the underprivileged for medical care. He has shared with us that Attorney’s, Brokers, Executives, etc……..are now flooding the system due to loss of employment.
I started looking up some statistics and found the following:
Over 3.3 million jobs were lost in the last 6 months, 663,000 in March alone.
The national average unemployment rate is now at 8.5% and expecting to climb dramatically. With some states up to 13%. No one can count on long term employment, loyalty of a company taking care of you, 401Ks, retirement or investments.
It is the best of times….It is the worst of times….
So what is the answer? You need to find a source of income that you control. That no one can fire you from, steal, or mismanage for you.
